Heros?

Most young kids these days have someone they look up to, someone they want to be. In today’s world we need to be careful who we let influence our kid’s lives. This so called role model I read about, Ugueth Urbina, was arrested and held on charge of attempted murder. I think it’s so dumb that when people are in the spotlight they do stupid things. I don’t know if Urbina is truly guilty, but just being involved with those kinds of people that could ruin your name is not too smart. Not to mention it doesn’t give a good idea to little kids with big imaginations.

I totally agree. There are so many people out there that are held up as heroes and role models that are just plain thugs, criminals, and just plain bad people that do nothing to contribute to society, but yet they are idolized and adored. I think it is very important for parents to know who their kids look up to and to help them have positive and accomplished people as heroes.

There is no question that kids are looking up to people they shouldn't. Kids idolize athletes and movie stars because of what they do on television, but as we well know these people are people just like us. I think it’s important for parents not to put to much emphasis on athletes or stars themselves, but more on the sports they play and the movies they’re in. I don’t think there could be a better way for a father to spend some time with his son watching a little baseball and then taking his son to the park to throw the ball around. Great parents make great heroes!

Heroes are such an important part of a childs life. I think it's so critical that the child picks people that will benefit him/her to look up to. I have no problem with it being an athlete if it's because the child wants to succeed in that sport, and the athlete is good at that sport. There are so many bad role models out there though. I agree with Bob though, I think the greatest heros can be found in the child's parents.
