Using Word

Most of the grade markdowns for this class are for spelling and grammatical mistakes.

Some students respond to markdowns on early assignments by writing in Word, using the spelling and grammar checker there, and then copying their work and pasting it into Blogger.

This works, but I have two caveats.

1) There are serious limitations to the spelling and grammar checkers in Word. Use them if they help. But don't be surprised (or defensive) if Dr. Tufte finds stuff that Word missed.

2) Blogger has limited capabilities. Word has far broader capabilities. This means that Word often overdoes it with formatting. One way to deal with this is to write in Word, then choose Save As and select "web page, filtered" off the list. Word will then pop open a new window. Copy from that Window rather than from the original window, and paste into Blogger.
